AR holidays

Last year I began experimenting with Augmented Reality. So as a giveaway for my portfolio I created a holiday greeting.

You can check it out here.

Here are some screen shots of a few users playing with it.

Thanks to everyone who enjoyed it!

Hi.

working for these people would be my ultimate dream job.

DEADLINE post-it stop motion

this is awesome. and i can relate.

“This is my senior project at Savannah College of Art and Design. Where my idea comes from is that every time when I am busy, I feel that I am not fighting with my works, I am fighting with those post-it notes and deadline.”
-Directed by Bang-yao Liu.

David Merrill: Siftables, the toy blocks that think

very cool.

MIT grad student David Merrill demos Siftables — cookie-sized, computerized tiles you can stack and shuffle in your hands. These future-toys can do math, play music, and talk to their friends, too.

impress – flexible display

impress – flexible display from Sillenet on Vimeo.

“impress is the deliverance of the touch screen from its technical stiffness, coldness and rigidity. It breaks the distance in the relationship of human and technology, because it is not any longer the user which is subjected to technology, but in this case the display itself has to cave in to the human. Impress is a chance of approach of user and technology, above all, from technology.
The user can merge in and collaborate with technology more than ever. He can squeeze out information and fly through rooms, he can form three-dimensional and put objects in motion by deforming the surface. ”

James Houston: big ideas (don’t get any).

I love this kind of stuff. especially the use of old computer parts.
Radiohead held an online contest to remix “Nude” from In Rainbows. For his final project from graphic design at the Glasgow School of Art, James Houston wired obsolete computer parts to play “Nude”.

Big Ideas (don’t get any) from James Houston on Vimeo.

He said:
“Based on the lyric (and alternate title) “Big Ideas: Don’t get any” I grouped together a collection of old redundant hardware, and placed them in a situation where they’re trying their best to do something that they’re not exactly designed to do, and not quite getting there.

It doesn’t sound great, as it’s not supposed to.”

He used these special instruments:

Sinclair ZX Spectrum – Guitars (rhythm & lead)
Epson LX-81 Dot Matrix Printer – Drums
HP Scanjet 3c – Bass Guitar
Hard Drive array – Speakers – Vocals & FX

First Electronic Paper Cover By Esquire

Esquire has come out with the first electronic magazine/paper cover for their new october issue.
interesting to know what else will come from this.

“To commemorate Esquire’s 75th Anniversary, we have published an experimental limited-edition of the October 2008 issue that features something called electronic ink, with moving words and flashing images, which you can see in the video above. It is available at some major bookstores and newsstands.”
